18 Ways to Create Marketing Buzz

Friday, February 29th, 2008

By Elizabeth Gordon Are you looking for ways to get people talking about your brand? An increasing frustration with traditional media has driven businesses and marketing firms to start employing more creative means of getting customers attention beyond the traditional media outlets. You may hear this referred to as viral, word-of-mouth or buzz marketing and this method is attaining broad popularity as an inexpensive and highly effective marketing method. What is Viral Marketing, Word-of-Mouth, or Buzz Marketing? Viral Marketing is a way of capturing attention of consumers and the media to the point where talking about your brand becomes interesting conversation. Generating a buzz is based on either customers personal experience with brands or what other people have told them about these brands. When this experience becomes interesting, your brand and what your company is doing become a source of entertainment, and your brand becomes newsworthy. Basically it’s unconventional, it’s economical and it’s powerful. Buzz marketing is capturing the attention of consumers and the media to the point where talking about your brand becomes entertaining, fascinating, and newsworthy. Buzz marketing is about starting conversations. In a nutshell, buzz marketing is about getting people talking and getting the media writing about your brand. With Buzz Marketing you stop talking at consumers, and start talking to them. Why does buzz work? Todays noisy advertising environment has forced marketers to become more creative and some say even slightly devious with their methods. Consumers are subject to constant information overload and are wary and distrustful of companies due to scandals and scams they have heard about or been victims of in the past. All of that buyers remorse from past bad purchase decisions has built up and created a wall of sales resistance that they psychologically throw up whenever faced with something that appears to be a marketing message or sales pitch. Conversely, consumers like to rely on friends and peers for product and service recommendations and will do less shopping around and are more apt to act based on recommendations of people the know. This has long fueled efforts to increase customer referrals for companies. Another way to enter a customers mindshare is through buzz marketing, which is simply the process of sharing information through the natural social networks of your target market that helps them in the decision-making process. That way, instead of coming from a faceless and distrusted corporation, the marketing message instead seems to emanate from the most powerful endorser possible: your coolest friend. How is it different than traditional advertising? Most marketing, advertising, and PR employs a push strategy, where you push your message out into the marketplace at people, typically when they are not seeking it. Many people do not enjoy or appreciate this approach. Good marketers know that using a pull strategy to market their products and services can result in close rates at least twice as high as a traditional push strategy. Doubling your marketing effectiveness is certainly worth paying attention to. Buzz marketing is powerful because it gets customers to seek you out. Why is this a good time for Buzz? Marketing today is in a state of turmoil. Industry leaders say traditional marketing campaigns, based on mass media advertising, are not working anymore. And the facts back them up. A 2004 study into advertising effectiveness by Deutsche Bank in the US consumer packaged goods sector found that only 18 percent of television advertising campaigns generate a positive return on annual investment, while the Harvard Business Review reports that for every dollar invested into traditional advertising for consumer packaged goods, the short-term return on investment is just 54 cents. Marketing in the business-to-business sector fares no better. An astonishing 84 percent of B2B marketing campaigns actually result in a fall in market share and brand equity. Word of mouth connections are highly influential. A 2004 UK survey of 10,000 consumers by consultants CIA:MediaEdge found that 76 percent cite word of mouth as their main influence on their purchasing decisions, compared with traditional advertising’s mere 15 percent. In the US, NOP (now GfK) research shows that 92 percent of Americans cite word of mouth as their preferred source of product information. Studies show that when it comes to generating excitement about products, word of mouth is 10 times more effective than TV or print advertising. Younger consumers, who are still forming their brand preferences, are among the most coveted by marketers. These days they spend less time planted in front of the tube and are more skeptical about the messages they receive there. Therefore a recommendation for a product or service from a trusted friend is more memorable and convincing than the cleverest television ad and more likely to be turned into action. What are the benefits? Many are saying that buzz represents the future and will surpass traditional ads in regards to maintaining consumer brand-interest. If I can involve one person really deeply in my brand in 50 cities, vs. 50 people in one city, I’ll take the former every time, says Mark Hughes, author of Buzzmarketing: Get People to Talk About Your Stuff. Jon Berry of research company Nop World, and author of The Influentials, argues that word of mouth is worth more than twice what it was in the 1970s in affecting consumer purchases, and it’s 150 percent more influential than newspaper and magazine advertising or articles. Another benefit of buzz marketing is the ability to break through customers natural defense mechanisms that they typically have up when receiving marketing messages. Customers think of you more like a friend and less like a business trying to sell them something, and that is a great place to be. Youre speaking faceto-face, which gives you attention and mindshare. Another reason word of mouth works so well is credibility. When your friend, neighbor, co-worker or a family member tells you about a great movie, product or service you believe them. Theyre not being paid to pitch the item and so you give them full credibility. Thats why having a great product matters so much: If you can really wow people, they will tell their friends and neighbors. Such face-to-face attention creates superior memory retrieval. In a study of two groups presented with advertising information with the brand removed, only 49 percent of people recalled advertising based on a visual cue, while 70 percent recalled advertising from a thirty-second musical cue. Given the right context of attention, audio stimuli can be far superior to visual. Buzz marketing is one of the hottest trends in marketing today. By applying these 18 techniques in your business youll see people buzzing about your brand. Heres how to do it: 1. Start with your initial or existing base of satisfied customers. While enrolling new consumers, a successful buzz marketing strategy bases itself on the impact these consumers could have on the next potential customer. Providing a positive customer experience establishes trust. This trust is rewarded with consumers acting as buzz marketing agents, literally working for brands free of charge. The consumers who are first to climb aboard and become evangelists of your brand. 2. Pick a target market you can find. Where does your target market hang out? If youre selling hot pink lipstick you might find that your main customers are at the corner of Pine and Main Street wearing stilettos and pleather. Make them easily definable and be able to name the specific areas where they go so you can target your target market. 3. Find the thought leaders. Every social culture has its thought leaders. Building a successful buzz campaign hinges on finding the right carriers for the message: influencers who are obsessed with staying one step ahead of their peers. You must find, connect, and collaborate with the people who influence your brand, lead opinions, and spread word of mouth. Look for opinion-leading individuals who frequently offer or are elicited for category-related advice. Thought leaders are the 10percent of society that help influence the majority of all purchasing decisions. They are not necessarily the customers who spend the most money with you, but they are the most important people you can reach because your target market takes their advice. They hold a social power that will amplify the affect of your word of mouth campaign. After finding influencers, make sure that you develop ongoing, two-way relationships with them from giving them a trial before the product is available to the mass market, to going back a step and getting them involved in your research and development. Try to give them experiences that exceed expectations. This will generate goodwill and advocacy that will go a long way toward kick-starting positive word of mouth and wider interest in your product, service, or campaign. 4. Again, find the influences and give out freebies. Think outside of the box. Rather than blitzing the airways with expensive TV commercials, give out freebies to select people who are trendsetters. Targeting the influential people you will get more visibility for your product or service by others who are their friends or assistants and who will buy based on the trendsetters. It is worth it to give out what you can for free that will allow customers to experience how great your brand is. 5. Use fake shoppers. One way to get closer to your customers is to show up right under their noses without them even seeing you. Often buzz marketers cover their tracks, at least initially. Slip into the conversational pathways of the target market and those who heavily influence their peers. 6. Work at a grassroots level. Get out there and hit the streets. Buzz requires manpower, whether its volunteers, paid representative, or evangelists that just cant stop talking. Create a culture around your brand, something that people can stand for, support and be proud of. Get into their neighborhoods. The most successful buzz marketers start on the streets, in the places people live, eat, work, socialize, etc.. 7. Piggyback off an existing trend or cause. Look for a trend that your target audience is currently interested in, such as environmentalism. If you can show them that you are interested in the same things that they are, youll make fast friends and get them talking. 8. Go to the point of sale. Stage an impromptu demonstration, create a display that will attract your customers or have actors put on a show around your product. If you are going to get people talking, get them talking as close to the point of purchase decision as possible. 9. The more unusual and shocking the better. Traditional ad campaigns have lost some of their punch while quirkier campaigns have generated huge grassroots followings for their brands with laughably low marketing expenditures. Use what people naturally like to talk about by creating a messages that contain one or more of these 6 elements. The taboo (sex, lies, bathroom humor, etc.) The unusual The outrageous The hilarious The remarkable Secrets (both kept and revealed) 10. Be completely believable. When you have your consumer do marketing for you, it is credible, less expensive and enormously believable. 11. Make it personal. Using the viral strategy on a humdrum product category, will not yield your best results. Buzz marketing still seems to work best for the relatively narrow range of products and services that consumers care deeply about because of their physical intimacy, technical complexity or status-enhancing potential. 12. Create a sense of scarcity. Lure those key consumers with coveted items–whether hot news, loaner cars, or cool gadgets–that are in short supply, and let the buzz begin. 13. Be bold and extreme. Companies that play on the extremes of being either totally authentic or blatantly unoriginal are memorable and different. Although a buzz campaign may have fictional elements, the premise should be true to the brand. Make sure your buzz campaign fits with your overall ad strategy. Similarly, being totally irreverent can get people talking as well; just make sure consumers don’t feel duped. Be sure to test your humor out on a sample of your target market first. 14. Leverage the internet and buzz with blogs. From large corporations such as GM and Microsoft to entrepreneurs, businesspeople of all kinds are using blogs as a tool to connect with customers and internal audiences in new ways. They’re generating unprecedented buzz, and exponentially amplifying word of mouth marketing. A single successful blog can attract tens or even hundreds of thousands of visitors. Done right, they can give back loyalty, goodwill, and valuable feedback. The best part is they often spread that message to others within their sphere of influence through blogs, instant messenger or e-mail. 15. Dont overlook quality and customer service. Make sure that your product, service or brand is of a quality level that stands out next to competitors. The last thing you want is to have all this talk you generated turn into complaints. Customer service should be given extra attention while you are working a buzz campaign. Good service and superior quality are so unique they create an inherent buzz of self-propelling word of mouth and customer recommendations. 16. Do something innovative. Buzz is great for anything new and innovative, but if your product is not innovative in itself, then put extra creativity in the execution to generate that buzz. 17. Measure as much as you can. Connected marketing is not about control; its about management. You cannot manage what you cannot measure. The initial contact may look spontaneous, but it’s anything but, and the back end of your campaign should be meticulously planned and the results carefully measured. Marketers are even attempting to quantify how often their message will be passed along and how many downstream consumers they need to influence before a fad is born. Obviously, using online capabilities will make this kind of measurement more easily and precisely monitored. At the very least it will show you whether or not your efforts paid for themselves, best case scenario you can determine the exact ROI. Figure out what types of data do you want to collect, the measurement of recommendation rates, what specific actions should be taken post-measurement, and what influences the recommended rate and how marketers improve recommendation rates. 18. Integrate the campaign with the overall marketing strategy. It is time to develop internal and external connected marketing strategies that integrate product development and marketing activities in innovative ways, enabling consumers and businesses to connect and collaborate with each other as respected partners in order to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes. Dont fall into thinking that if you get buzz you don’t need any marketing. Buzz marketing should be one part of an overall integrated marketing communications plan. Good buzz is the best thing you could wish for. But, in most cases, distribution, advertising, promotion and other traditional concepts are essential to translate the goodwill surrounding your product into sales. The focus should be not on whether something is classified as traditional or guerrilla, mainstream or viralbut on whether it works. Focus on results, and don’t get caught up in any single marketing ideology. It is best to start little fires in lots of places and fan them afterwards. Implement these techniques and watch the buzz get started. For more information about how you can create a marketing buzz, visit www.flourishingbusiness.com. SMS service: Gaining Popularity

Friday, February 29th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Judith_Earl]Judith Earl Short Message Service (SMS) is on the edge of becoming a big-time player in the wireless technology. SMS has grown in popularity far beyond anyone’s initial expectations. SMS is a smart and trouble-free method to interact with our friends living even in farthest corner of the world. In the age when science is dominating the world, SMS via our mobile phones is a boon of technology. Every phone has a fixed limit of number of characters that can be written. Some have it at 160, while others allow you to type 190 characters on a single page. As soon as the message is delivered, we get the delivery report. The instant delivery of message depends on the network of the company whose mobile connection we have. SMS is similar to paging but SMS messages doesnt require the mobile phone to be active and within range. SMSs are sent via an SMS center. Merits of SMS:1. Cost effective: The wonderful feature of text messaging is that it is inexpensive. While an international call can cost you several dollars, an SMS will do the same job in a significantly smaller amount. 2. Comfort- SMS is perhaps the most convenient way to communicate. It allows you to chat with your friends and relatives anywhere anytime. 3. Express your opinion- SMS is an excellent way to state your choice in matters of public concern. You can also get a chance to win numerous contests happening on TV. 4. Spontaneity- Another significant feature of text messaging is the speed with which it connects us to people. It reaches its target in a few seconds. Messages can be written and sent while you going to the office, sitting idle in a bus or even watching television. There are a few drawbacks of SMS: Some people become addictive to text messaging specially children. It may contribute to your mobile phones monthly bill. SMSs are prone to failure due to network problems. Planning A Wedding On A Small Budget

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

By Dennis Estrada The wedding budget is an essential part of wedding planning. This sets how much to spend on the essential elements of the momentous wedding. As a matter of fact, we must set the budget at the very beginning. The costs of wedding have increased steadily. We easily get carried away. We all have limits on what we can spend. After we set the budget, we must follow the budget as hard as we can. Otherwise, we became the casualty of over-spending. There are few ways to spend less on wedding. When we are shopping for something, we must compare the prices. To compare the prices is imperative to spend less on wedding. When we see something great the first time, we go continue to see the rest. Then, we make the ultimate decision. By planning your own wedding, you will spend less on wedding too. Although wedding planner will professionally organize everything for you, the wedding planner will increase your wedding expenses. Wedding Flowers Use the wedding flowers that are abundantly available in season and readily available on local. Thus, you spend less on wedding flowers. There are flowers available all year round, but there are many flowers available on a certain season only. For example, the tulips are abundant on spring season. The tulip bulbs need to freeze during the winter months for the tulip to bloom on spring season. However, it is not impossible to find flowers which are not on season. The flowers just cost more. Making wedding flower arrangements yourselves, you can spend less on the wedding florists. Usually, the florists make flower arrangements on bouquets, centerpieces, corsages, hairclips, button-holes, wedding aisles, and flower girl baskets. Some floral schools may also arrange the flowers for you. Students who want to get their foot in the door may arrange the flowers at a fraction of the costs. Wedding Dress When you add the word wedding in front of dress, the dress will cost a fortune. To buy a wedding dress will cost in the thousands. During September to October, the homecoming or prom dress is a great alternative. During the off peak wedding season, the wedding dress costs less. From January to March, the designers put the wedding dress for clearance. Thereby, we can own a brand wedding dress at lesser price. Rent or borrow from friends or relatives. Some moms or grandmother have kept the wedding dress for keepsake. If the wedding dress is on excellent condition, you can borrow the wedding dress. Department stores stack the wedding dress for sale. The wedding dresses of designer boutique are more expensive than department stores. Even though the wedding dress includes the newest and trendiest on designer boutique, you can find a good quality wedding dress on department stores. Look also for the discontinued rack. Designers make different design for each season and year. There will be a time when the designers will stop making the particular design. Reception Dinner If you compare the prices on the menu, the pasta, chicken, and rice cost less than most dishes. Serve pasta, rice, or chicken to spend less on the dinner. It also fills you up more too. The buffet or plate dinner will costs less than sit down dinner. Best of all, the guests can comeback for the second and third time. That will surely fill them up. Borrow or rent the large backyard or garden for wedding reception from friends or family. If you already have own a large backyard or garden, you can use the backyard or garden as wedding reception. The wedding reception on Fridays saves a few dollars for each guest. It all adds up when there are many guests on the wedding reception. Wedding Cake The wedding cake can serve as dessert to finish the wonderful meal. After the wedding cake has done its part, you can cut into smaller pieces to serve on plate. Or, the guests cut the piece of cake themselves. Some bakery schools may also cater the wedding cake to your wedding. The students are always eager for real life experience. At the same time, we spend less on wedding cake and give real life experience to students. How to Tackle the Honey-Do List Instead of Each Other

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

By Catherine Ipcizade Does this sound familiar? The sun is shining as morning welcomes a new day. You get up, get dressed and start to work on the seemingly endless chores youve been putting off. You feel good because you and your spouse decided together that this would be the weekend to tackle everything from the broken washer to the overgrown hydrangeas. But then you look over and see your husband, who was supposed to be washing the car, sprawled in front of the television with a bag of chips or worse, you find him snoring peacefully in his recliner. What do you do? Okay - maybe your husband doesnt even own a recliner. Maybe he does help when you ask him, sometimes. But maybe, just maybe, youd like him to do more. Perhaps youve even created the dreaded honey-do list more times than you can count and waited as nothing got crossed off. If so, youll want to keep reading. You might be surprised to know that men are helping around the house more than ever. They now share tasks that women once completed alone. Perhaps it is the influx of women in the workplace that has brought about this change. Perhaps its just good common sense. In a recent survey, couples were asked various questions regarding their involvement in household chores. Nearly 90% of women felt that their mates helped them around the house. All of the women stated that they appreciated the help they received, though all but ten percent would like to see their husbands help out more. In contrast, 75% of the men interviewed felt that they were responsible for half of the household chores. Most stated that they didnt resist helping out, but wanted to feel more appreciated for the help they offered. In the same survey, men were asked which chore they liked the most and which they disliked. Answers were all over the board. Those with pets disliked picking up after the pet. Some disliked laundry, while others stated laundry was their favorite chore. For men who have yards, yard work was by far the number one chore they preferred. So why then is it often such a struggle to get things done? Here are some suggestions to get the honey-do list completed before a household war erupts: *Ask nicely. You may think youre already doing this but more often than naught, the men I interviewed thought their wives could approach them more openly rather than demanding their help. I know, I know, this is difficult, especially if you feel like youve already asked a zillion times! But give it a try - it might pay off. *Show appreciation and be satisfied with the job done. This goes both ways. Men need to appreciate the work their wives do on a daily basis. When they do, women can more easily appreciate the work their husbands do as well. No, your husband isnt going to fold the towels the same way you do, and he may indeed use the window cleaner on the counters, but realize that things dont always have to be done your way. Look at it this way; if he does it, you dont have to! *Communicate with one another. If you remember nothing else from this article, remember this. Effective communication is the answer here. The truth is, you both want a home that is livable and enjoyable. But you dont want chores to be the straw that breaks the camels back in your marriage. If hed rather give the kids a bath than clean up dinner, let him. If youd rather pick the weeds than do the laundry, tell him. Compromise. The key is talking about what is important to both of you and finding a way to meet both of your needs. An approach that works for one person may not work for another. Be specific about your needs, consider dividing the chores in a way that makes both of you happy and stick to it! When you work together, you give yourselves more time to play together, and we could all use more of that! And men, remember, as Dr. Phil McGraw says, When Mama aint happy, aint nobody happy. So stop using the honey-do list as a coaster and consider tackling it I have a sneaking suspicion youll be glad you did. Cell phone Etiquette. The Do’s and Don’ts

Monday, February 25th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Catherine_Kenyeres]Catherine Kenyeres With more and more people buying cell phones, it becomes more significant to know how to use your cell phone without looking obnoxious. Cell phones play an important role in our lives, but cell phone rage, like road rage, air rage and general rage is rising. Here are some tips for cell phone etiquette. Out with a group of friend(s) and your cell phone rings? Excuse yourself from the group and take the call elsewhere. Taking the call elsewhere will not disrupt the flow of conversation within the group. With a friend and the cell phone rings? Keep the call short and sweet. Otherwise, it gives the appearance that the friend you are with is less important that the caller. Out on a date? The point of the date is to be able to spend time to get to know the other person. I would suggest that you disregard such calls. The romance is lost by the sound of the ringtones of your cell phone. Your date will appreciate your undivided attention. Its a good idea to put your cell phone on vibrate when in restaurants, theaters, churches, weddings and funerals. When Im out in a restaurant, I feel like asking for the non cell phone ringing section. Like many others, it is not often do I get to spend a quiet evening away from the children, work or other distractions. An evening going out to dinner with my husband is supposed to be relaxing, and we do not enjoy being distracted overhearing how wonderful your life has become since you started using Viagra. I was in a movie theater once and someones cell phone rang and the individual took the call. Someone else in the theater did not react well to the intrusive call and started shouting at the cell phone user. The cell phone user ignored the cell phone raged individual and the focus of the movie was lost and everyones attention was on these two people. While nothing came of the incident, a relaxing evening out with my husband was lost. I felt like asking for our money back. The next time we will. There is no question that cell phones are an important part of our lives. Use cell phones with good manners. Everyone will appreciate it. P.S. As for ringtones Not all people will appreciate listening to the latest pop tune or classical music each and every time your cell phone rings. May I suggest using the vibrate feature instead of your ringtones in a public place. 5 Simple Techniques To Help You Catch More Fish

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

By Trevor Kugler p>In my estimation, many anglers overlook some very simple things that effect their fish catching ability. Like many things in life, it’s often the most obvious things that get overlooked, and in most cases these obvious things have a very big impact on our lives, and for the purposes of this article, our fishing. These 5 techniques are going to be focused on the river or stream angler who spends much oh their time wading in the water, trying to catch fish. So if you’re a Largemouth Bass angler who fishes from a $20,000 bass boat, these tips probably won’t mean much to you. In any case, here are the tips and you can do with them what you will: 1) Size Matters - The size of your line matters. In river and stream situations fish are usually much more wary than in a muddy lake with a lot of boat traffic. In most cases the water is very clear as well. This means that the fish are much more likely to see your line. I personally use four pound test, which is all but invisible to the fish. I’ve had the direct experience of using six pound test and getting no bites. Then switching to four pound test and catching fish one after another. 2) Your Clothes Matter - The color of your clothing matters. You wan t to avoid wearing loud colors that will make it easier for the fish to see you. Remember, if the fish can see you, they normally won’t bite (especially in clear water mountain rivers). Wear darker more drab colors if at all possible. 3) Avoid Loud Noises - I know, as anglers we are all aware of the “be quiet” rule while fishing, but it’s even more pronounced on river and stream situations. Especially on rivers and streams that don’t receive much fishing pressure. The biggest thing to avoid as far as noise goes on rivers and streams are rocks banging together underwater. Remember this while wading from here to there. 4) Present Bait Naturally - You want to present your bait as naturally as possible. You want your bait to look like it would without hooks in it. The best way I know to accomplish this is by using gang hooks. The bottom line is for your bait to look as natural as possible. 5) Clean Your Hands - Fish have a very sensitive sense of smell and can smell your scent on your bait. This is a big reason people use “attractors” on their baits. I don’t think these things attract fish as much as they cover the scent of humans! Using a hand sanitizer is a good idea or just grabbing a handful of grass and rubbing it in your hands has always worked well for me. Start employing any or all of these five techniques and you will start catching more fish; it’s as simple as that. Catching fish doesn’t have to be difficult, especially if we’re reminded of the basics from time to time. Remember what Steven Wright said, “There’s a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore like an idiot.” Trevor Kugler - Co-founder of JRWfishing.com Trevor has more than 15 years of business experience and 25 years of fishing experience. Is There A Magic Diet Pill?

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

By Rabah Qial I’ve spent some time looking around, of course online :), looking for other people’s experiences about those rather magically advertised diet pills. A diet pill sounds magic, doesn’t it! Something like: I have a headache! Honey! Take an aspi…and you’ll be OK. I have some extra pounds fat! Oh dear! … Just take some of those diet pills and you’ll be … (what you wish)! … And hopefully for a long time! If only it were so simple and effective! Diet pills, after all, are medical pills, kind of drugs that may be taken only if you know they represent no danger for your body and well-being integrity. Such diet pills may cause, among others, kidney and liver damage. So don’t use any before consulting a trustful specialist. Many such pills contain vitamins and mineral which may turn out to be not effective for your goal: short-term weight loss. Herbal diet pill.. Over-the-counter.. “natural diet pill” Such attractive green names! Though, I wonder how natural a natural pill is. Does such pill contain exclusively ingredients as natural as the name sounds? You know, the matter here, is that we are trying and playing with a complicated metabolism (yes, dear. I mean our fat body) whereas prestigious scientists in this field are rigorously stating: ” The limitation of drugs for obesity is that we still do not know fully the neural basis of appetite and how to modulate it. Appetite is clearly a very important instinct to promote survival. Arguably any drug that would abolish appetite may carry a high mortality risk and may be unsuitable for clinical use. Because the human body uses various chemicals and hormones to protect its stores of fat (a reaction probably useful to our ancestors when food was scarce in the past,) there has not yet been found a “silver bullet”, or a way to completely circumvent this natural habit of protecting excess food stores. Because of this, anti-obesity drugs are not a practical long-term solution for people who are overweight”. So, don’t use such pills unless you are medically advised to. Down or not down to diet pills? …Not so evident, you must say! Logically speaking, not all diet pills fall in the same category of long-term ineffectiveness and potential health danger. As not knowing fully the neural basis of appetite and the way to modulate it doesn’t imply total rejection of every diet pill drug we may encounter. By the way, this very statement is valid for every other science we know. Do we know the basis ( all we need to know) of every other science? I guess not, otherwise we are no more humans. But this statement is very essential when it comes to what we ignore about our appetite whereabouts. Of course, isn’t our body we talking about, here? Although, there is no persuasive evidence that such diet pill help the way their producers claim, and historically, so many pills were ordered to be removed from the market by the Food and Drug Administration. Yet some diet pills if medically prescribed, in addition to a healthier lifestyle can yield to some positive results. The golden rule here is that diet pills are essentially drugs, so be cautious the same way you are towards other kind of drugs. We, humans, tend to be eager to reach results as soon as imaginable. Try to reach good results as reasonable as you can. Some extra pounds fat are better than probably hurting vital organs such as heart and lever. Take the necessary time to reach the same goal through healthier eating habits and enough body exercises, otherwise rely on self-acceptance and patience as a remedy till you get a better solution. Sure you’ll get one! Till next time, take care of your cells :) Rabah Qial is member of FattyBeauty.com editorial team. What You Need To Know About College Before You Actually Get There

Monday, February 18th, 2008

By Chris Stout No two college experiences are the same. Different schools have different rules, practices and mindsets. Students (even those that graduate with the same credentials) take very different paths in college. When you listen to advice about what college is like or what you need to expect, be sure to take each opinion with a grain of salt. Before you get to college, there are a few useful little tidbits that you need to understand. Firstly, you need to have a plan before you get to school. This whole notion that you have two years to find your academic goals is nonsense. If you want to get the most out of your college experience, then you need to start working toward your major while you take your GEs. You dont have to declare your major until your junior year, but you should be working towards your major from the moment you arrive. When you go to college, you need to budget your funds. Tuition costs are massive, but they do not cover your living and supply expenses. Get used to spending hundreds of dollars every quarter (or semester) on books, materials and readers. Be sure that youve set aside enough cash to shop for food, have a life and pay your rent and bills. For many students, college is the first time that personal cash has to be properly allocated. Make sure that you understand what expenses you have to pay, and how (and when) you have to pay them. One important thing to understand is that college can be personalized. Many universities allow students to craft their own majors and independent study classes. If you have a wacky set of academic and professional interests, then combine them while youre in school. You can study law, engineering and art simultaneously if you want. If youre going to take boat-loads of classes for each major, then might as well leave school with three degrees. If you want to combine disciplines and graduate with a degree in Psychology, Sociology and Linguistics, then do so. Its remarkable how easy it is to customize your learning experience. Take advantage of tailor-made approaches to learning, and create your own course or degree path. Keep in mind that college advisors dont know everything. If you dont feel like you are getting accurate information from an academic advisor, front office desk clerk or student financial aid helper, then seek out info from more sources. Dont think that these university employees are all-knowing infallible entities. They can make mistakes (like telling you to fill out the wrong form, saying its impossible to take a certain class, etc.). If you doubt the accuracy of the advice youve been given, dont feel bad if you have to seek out additional sources in order to confirm the information youve been presented with. When you get to college, you need to hit the ground running. So take as much time as you can to familiarize yourself with your particular university before you get to school. You can save a lot of time and money if you come in as an informed student ready to perform. Take a look at more industry related articles by Chris Stout at CareersandEducation.com . Beading Garments - Getting Started

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

By Felicity Walker If you’ve seen someone wearing a beaded garment, then you may have been inspired to make one for yourself. Done correctly, it’s a wonderful way to liven up your wardrobe and have a collection of clothing that is unique and individual. But there are a few basics that you need to keep in mind when you’re getting ready to bead a garment. Fabrics Most fabrics can be beaded if you’re careful, but stay away from extremely sheer fabrics, or fabrics that are easily crushed, as it’s hard to press the beadwork. For beginners, it’s probably best to start with a knit fabric, such as rugby, double knit or fleece. These materials are easy to handle and more tolerant of error. If you choose a fine fabric, you may need to back the material with an iron on backing, preferable some type of woven interfacing. This will help to support the beading when completed. If you’re knit material, or anything that might shrink, it’s best to pre-wash the garment. It can also be a good idea to test your beads for colorfastness prior to using them on a garment. To do this, place a few beads onto a piece of thread and place them in a cup of warm water containing some mild washing liquid. Leave them for a few minutes, and then dip a white tissue into the water. If you see traces of color, you will need to use different beads. If there are no traces of color, the beads should be fine. Threads Use thread you’re familiar with, preferably one that doesn’t twist. If you have problems with twisting, run the thread over a beeswax block once, and wipe the excess onto a spare piece of fabric. Choose thread that matches the color of the fabric. The only exception would be if the beads are a strongly contrasting color - for example, black beads on white fabric might be better with black thread. Test first and decide which looks best. If you’re using sequins, then the thread should always match the sequins, not the fabric. Needles Use a good quality beading needle, usually size 10-13. A smaller needle is better if you can manage it, but you might need to make use of a needle threader. Check the size of the eye on your needle - you might prefer to use a needle of the same size with a smaller eye so that you make less of a mark if you’re using delicate fabric. Caring For Your Garment Once you’ve finished beading your garment, it’s important to care for it properly. Hand wash gently using a mild washing powder or liquid. Rinse the garment well and wrap it in a towel. Squeeze out the excess water gently. Dry it flat in the shade, and NEVER tumble dry. If you need to press your garment, make sure you never press sequins. For beads, lay the work right side facing down, with a towel underneath it, and gently press with the wool setting on your press. If you dry your garment carefully, most of the time it shouldn’t need pressing. Now all you need to do is find a garment, design a pattern with beads, and get started! Palpitations, Mitral Valve Prolapse, and the Migraine Syndrome

Friday, February 15th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=J._Wes_Tanner,_MD] J. Wes Tanner, MD Wow! That was interesting. My heart started beating funny for a few beats and I wasnt doing anything at all. Now, if this had happened a few minutes ago when I was exercising, I would be more worried. My chest did hurt a little, but it went away. I have been noticing this for years. I wonder if it is anything serious. After all it is my chest. One of the vogue diagnoses of the 1980s was mitral valve prolapse (MVP). If you were one of these people, you probably were also prescribed antibiotics to be taken before dental procedures. Frequently a beta-blocker (medicine to slow down the heart rate) was prescribed for 6 months up to the rest of your life. Now this could be appropriate care because beta-blockers can prevent migraines. Even a blind hog finds an acorn! I cannot tell you how many people I treated with the right medicine without the problem being correctly explained. Palpitations (awareness of heart beats), mitral valve prolapse, panic attacks, anxiety, and chest pain can why a person would seek medical care. Each of these could be part of the [http://www.migrainesyndrome.net] migraine syndrome. Let me explain what I mean by the migraine syndrome. It is the outward expression of the bodys sensitivity to light, sound, smell, food, and/or stress. Some people are more sensitive than others; therefore, their reactions to different stimuli are greater. This sensitivity can be manifested in the body as migraines, sinus headaches, neck aches, palpitations, irritable bowel syndrome, motion sickness or vertigo, reactive hypoglycemia, temporomandibular joint syndrome (TMJ), panic attacks, and/or fibromyalgia. Now thats a mouthful! Understanding what is going on with you is very important in the healing process. J. Wes Tanner, MD, is a family practice and headache specialist who has been treating people for over 30 years. He has extensive experience in treating migraines and fibromyalgia with excellent success. In Doctor, Why Do I Feel This Way?, Dr. Tanner exposes the secrets and myths about fibromyalgia and the migraine syndrome.
